September 11 is coming up. The ten year anniversary of the terrorist attack on New York City’s twin towers – the World Trade Center. I cannot believe that it’s been almost ten years now. Ten years ago, that for me, looking back at myself as an innocent third grader, now seems like the day that the world started falling apart. Sometimes, thinking about what happened on that morning still haunts me and a lot of the time, I still can’t seem to grasp the horror of the events that took place in those tragic hours. Just last year, when I was 17 years old, was the first time that I was actually able to comprehend the significance of what happened on 9/11, which I think says a lot, seeing as I was alive when it happened. This makes me wonder how children born after 2001 think of it – they couldn’t possible hold as meaningful of an understanding as someone that was older when it happened could. Not only this, it seems that now with everything going on with the war, there are so many politics to understand now too, which only makes things more difficult. I know it does for me. But terrorism, everything aside, is still terrorism. The hatred is one thing I will never be able to comprehend. Where does that kind of hatred even come from?
