I feel as a general people, we judge and look down upon others way too much. In the book, “I, Rigoberta Menchu”, Rigoberta talks about the customs of her culture and mentions how they have a lot of contact with nature and don’t worship, but respect a lot of things that have to do with nature. For example, they respect the sun, the earth, the corn, and water. She says that because of this, others call them polytheistic and she uses the term as if it is used negatively towards her culture. Why is it so bad for someone to believe in something different than you? If anything, people like this should be looked upon as opportunities to get to learn something new and understand a different perspective of the world. Even with abortion or any other controversial topic. Just because someone is pro-choice that does not make them a bad person. They just have a different view on life from someone who might be pro-life. Based on this small piece of knowledge about them, we shouldn’t discriminate. We should embrace. Because every different opinion is a different perspective, a new opportunity, a new perspective and a chance to learn something.
